Oscar’s fashion for two

When I say fashion for two I don’t mean matchy matchy Justin and Britney circa 2001 American Music Awards, I mean dressing as a mama to be. Dressing while pregnant can be tricky at the best of times, factor in a black tie event and it becomes a minefield. You will want to feel your usual glamorous self, but finding clothes that are your style that flatter your new figure can be very difficult. I can only imagine how difficult it would be preparing for the Oscars. Yes you may have an army of stylists who want to dress you, but I have no doubt even A – listers have days when they would rather dress in over the bumpleggings and a baggy top. I miss those leggings.

Skin saviour – Indeed Labs Hydraluron

My name is Emma and I’m a skincare products addict. There I said it. I’m not ashamed of it. It’s true – like so many women I adore skincare. In fact I get given out to when I pass a pharmacy, as I inherently start heading towards the doors. It doesn’t matter who I’m with I find a reason to go inside, currently you might hear me saying ‘ooh I desperately need to get x, y, z FOR THE BABY!’

The first antibiotics

My memories of being sick as a child involve lying over my mother’s knee while she whacked my back and tried to bring up phlegm. I have a memory of the doctor telling her this was the best way to loosen chest mucus that I wasn’t bringing up myself, not just her way of venting frustration of dealing with a sickly child. In order to stop the back whacking I had to take vile, VILE “banana” flavoured augmentin. Disclaimer, she wasn’t really whacking, more tapping as I coughed, but artistic license and all that.

Fast forward 30 years and my role has changed, I’m now the mum and Little A has been under the weather. A LOT. Thanks to the incredibly mild winter that has meant all manner of bugs haven’t died, he’s picked up colds, coughs, sticky eyes, tummy bugs to name but a few. Until now none of them needed more than some TLC, pain relief and plenty of fluids. Continue reading “The first antibiotics”

Mum on the run

NikeID
My NikeID’s – It’s love

Since Little A has come along, I’ve found myself drawn to shoes that I can run about it, something stylish yet comfortable. We’re not talking nun shoes here, I’m thinking Nike, New Balance and the like! Stylish, comfortable, allowing you to nip to the shops, or go for a mammoth walk in an effort to get baba to sleep or meet other mums for much needed coffee and chat. Thankfully runners are still having something of a fashion moment, so instead of feeling like a retired American tourist in their spanking new white ‘sneakers’ you can feel impossibly stylish – even if you haven’t brushed your hair and the extent of your beauty routine is haphazardly slapping moisturiser on your face. In my book that’s a serious effort.

Pancake Tuesday

It’s one of my favourite days, there’s no denying it. Despite this fact, I’m never prepared and it always creeps up on me. Wasn’t it Christmas just last week? Time really does seem to speed up the older you get.

My mum is the best pancake maker in the world. Bar none. She has no official title, nor has she taken part in any competitions. She doesn’t need to, the other opponents would only feel humiliated by her pancake making prowess. She keeps it simple, old school if you will, the memorised Delia Smith recipe is called into play, doubled or tripled depending on who’ll be there – or how hungry we are.

Baby friendly cinema

We’re in the midst of awards season with the Oscars happening at the end of the month, ooh I can’t wait to see the fashion, the winners, will this year FINALLY be Leonardo DiCaprio‘s year?! Naturally everyone is talking about the nominees, and normally I’d make a trip to see at least a few of them. See what the fuss is ‘n all that! This year, with a little one, cinema trips with Mr WSQ are few and far between. Once you factor in a babysitter it’s suddenly a very expensive evening when you’re not evening going out-out! Even if you aren’t into all the awards season buzz, sometimes it’s raining and you need to get out of the house. Enter baby friendly cinema.
